Cathie Wood Pours $28 Million Into Tech Stock in One Week

Cathie Wood is doubling down on SpaceX ( NASDAQ:SPCX ) while taking money off the table in several high-profile growth stocks, making Elon Musk's space-and-AI company ARK Invest's biggest purchase during the latest trading week. The contrast matters: ARK bought roughly $28 million of SpaceX while selling tens of millions of dollars of Roblox ( NYSE:RBLX ), Palantir ( NASDAQ:PLTR ) and Advanced Micro Devices ( NASDAQ:AMD ), signaling where Wood sees the more compelling long-term opportunity.

SpaceX, which went public in June at $135 per share, operates the Starlink satellite-internet network, launches rockets and spacecraft, and is increasingly investing in AI infrastructure. Its businesses span connectivity, commercial and government launches, and AI-related computing services.
ARK purchased 205,031 SpaceX shares worth an estimated $28 million during the Aug. 17-21 week. That topped roughly $25 million of Cerebras Systems ( NASDAQ:CBRS ) purchases and $22.8 million of Nvidia ( NASDAQ:NVDA ).
The buying stands out because SpaceX has been anything but a smooth post-IPO trade. Shares have swung sharply around earnings and successive lockup expirations, including another 319 million shares becoming eligible for sale on Aug. 20.
Yet SpaceX's underlying growth explains some of ARK's conviction. Second-quarter revenue surged 92% year over year to $7.8 billion, led by Starlink and AI. The tradeoff is enormous spending: quarterly capital expenditures reached roughly $18.4 billion, leaving investors debating whether rapid AI monetization can justify the investment required.
Meanwhile, ARK sold approximately $49 million of Roblox, $34.5 million of Palantir and $31 million of AMD. Those reductions do not necessarily represent outright bearish calls, but they make SpaceX's continued accumulation more notable.
The most important test is whether SpaceX can convert extraordinary revenue growth into sustainable cash generation. Investors should watch Starlink subscriber and revenue growth, AI revenue, capital expenditures and progress toward management's targeted $100 billion annualized revenue run rate.
Share supply is another immediate risk. More post-IPO lockup releases are scheduled in coming months, potentially adding selling pressure even if operations remain strong.
For Wood, however, the latest trades suggest volatility is creating an opportunity rather than breaking the SpaceX thesis.
