Nvidia ( NVDA , Financials ) has brought in veteran Washington insider Bruce Andrews to lead its government affairs efforts, strengthening its presence in the U.S. capital as artificial intelligence and chip policy become increasingly important.

Andrews, who previously headed government affairs at Intel and served in the Commerce Department during the Obama administration, will join Nvidia as Chief External Affairs Officer. He will report to General Counsel Tim Teter.
