An Israeli airstrike on a cafe in Gaza City on Tuesday killed six people and wounded a dozen more, Palestinian officials said, while the Israeli military said it carried out an attack targeting Hamas commanders.
Mahmoud Bassal, a spokesperson for Gaza's civil defence agency, told AFP that at least six were killed, "including a child, and a large number were wounded, as a result of an Israeli raid on tents of displaced people in Gaza port."
An eyewitness told AFP Israeli war planes fired two missiles at the "Sweet and Bitter" cafe on the fishermen's port.
The Reuters news agency cited Palestinian medics as saying 14 others were wounded in the missile attack on the small cafe.
The Israeli army said it carried out a "precise aerial strike" against "several Hamas commanders" who "planned to carry out terror attacks against [Israeli military] troops operating in the Gaza Strip" and that "steps were taken to mitigate harm to civilians."
The strikes came just one day after US President Donald Trump's envoy Jared Kushner was in Israel and met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israel has insisted it will not withdraw from the areas it still controls in Gaza, some 60% of the Palestinian enclave, until Hamas has fully disarmed.
Hamas , which Israel, the US and other countries designate as a terrorist organization, has expressed its intention to disarm, but sticking points remain including over where the arms would then go.
After the Tuesday attack, Hamas said it exemplified Israel's "blatant disregard for all calls for a ceasefire issued by mediators and guarantor states."
The United Arab Emirates said on Tuesday it has detected two ballistic missiles fired at its territory, for which it blamed Iran.
"UAE air defenses detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran toward the country, with the first falling outside the country's territorial waters, while the second fell within the territorial waters," said a statement posted by the UAE Defense Ministry on X.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Interior Ministry had warned residents against "potential missile threats."
Iran did not immediately respond to the UAE's accusations.
The Israeli military on Tuesday acknowledged that soldiers carrying out a raid in the northern West Bank on Monday had marked detained Palestinians with numbers.
In a statement to The Times of Israel newspaper, the military said the seriousness of the conduct had been stressed to the troops involved and that "lessons have been learned."
Footage emerged on Monday showing a Palestinian man speaking to local media after being questioned by Israeli soldiers, with the number 44 written across his forehead.
The man said the troops had marked others who were questioned.
